At least two people suffered serious injuries – including one life-threatening injury – after a man police described as acting "erratically" caused several crashes Friday afternoon.
Scottsdale police say the man was involved in a serious crash at Hayden Rd. and Via de Ventura. Because his car wasn't drivable, police say the man stripped naked and then opened the driver's door of another car, yanked the female driver out of her car causing a minor injury, and drove off in her car.
Minutes later, the man was on Shea Blvd. near 90th St. when he collided with four other vehicles. Police don't know whether he was driving against traffic or ran a stop light or stop sign. There was at least one serious injury among the people in those vehicles.
Police say the man then attempted to carjack two other vehicles, but was unsuccessful before officers arrived and arrested him.
Sgt. Mark Clark says the man's erratic behavior suggests he may have been under the influence of drugs.
The intersection of Hayden and Via de Ventura, as well as the stretch of Shea Blvd. between Loop 101 and 92nd St., are expected to be closed to all traffic until mid evening.
