Three Phoenix-area hospitals are ranked in the top 50 in the country in certain specialties.
The annual list by US News and World Report lists St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix – which includes Barrow Neurological Institute – at #13 in neurology and neurosurgery.
Mayo Clinic's Arizona campus is listed twice. US News ranks Mayo 24th best in geriatrics and 34th in nephrology.
And Banner Good Samaritan Hospital is named four times in the rankings: #31 in geriatrics, #36 in the category "diabetes and endocrinology," #36 for cardiology and heart surgery, and #47 in nephrology.
The magazine ranks the top 50 hospitals in 16 specialties. This year, the top-50 lists covered 720 hospitals out of about 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
