PHOENIX - Police were called to a home near Central Avenue and Encanto Tuesday night around 10 p.m. about an unknown trouble. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 46-year-old Donald L. Mellon, Jr. inside the home, suffering from obvious trauma.
Mellon was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities say officers tried to speak to 31-year-old Rebekah Mellon, the victim's wife, about the case, but she became uncooperative. They detained her until the homicide detectives arrived at the home.
A motive has not been determined, but Officer James Holmes says investigators were able to establish cause to arrest Mellon for the shooting death of her husband.
Mellon will be booked into jail for suspicion of first degree murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
