Phoenix police and a local police support organization have helped rescue the Christmas of an ill west Phoenix girl.

Five-year-old Linzy Smith is suffering from kidney failure and needs a bone marrow transplant.  Fearing that Linzy could be hospitalized for treatment at Christmas, her family – which lives near 71st Ave. and Thomas Rd. – wanted her to have an early Christmas and decorated the house and yard for Christmas on the day before Thanksgiving.

However, thieves promptly stole the lawn decorations. When the family called police to report the theft, Angels on Patrol got involved.  The organization provides financial assistance to the families of police officers when needed, and also to community members designated by police.

Angels on Patrol stepped in and gave the family money to replace the Christmas decorations.  Then officer Jake Lewis of the Maryvale precinct accompanied the family to Walmart and bought $80 worth of food, as well as a much-needed coffee pot, out of his own pocket.
