PHOENIX (AP) _ More than 200 candidates will run for the 90 seats in the Arizona Legislature this fall.

The Arizona Republic reports candidates including veteran lawmakers and newcomers filed nominating petitions in time for the Wednesday deadline.

The Republic says nearly one-fourth of House and Senate members will not be running for re-election because of term limits, retirement or for other political ambitions.

The filings will open a 10-day challenge period where candidates and their supports may question whether other candidates met all election criteria.

Officials say the courts have 10 days to settle any challenges.

The legislative candidates will face off in Aug. 28 primary races.
