(UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama Tuesday told Commerce Secretary John Bryson to focus on his health after a seizure apparently led to a pair of hit-and-run crashes.

Bryson was found unconscious in his Lexus in Southern California during the weekend after striking two vehicles. He was hospitalized and announced Monday he would be taking a medical leave of absence.

Obama had a short conversation with Bryson and told him to "focus his thoughts on his own health on his own family," White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

Earnest said the president has confidence in Deputy Secretary Rebecca M. Blank, who will lead the Commerce Department for the time being.
