MESA, Ariz. (AP) _ A man has been arrested in the stabbing death of his roommate at an east Mesa home.

Mesa police say 20-year-old James D. Kelly is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Kelly allegedly called 911 about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to report his roommate had committed suicide.

Arriving police officers say 27-year-old Brandon M. Crowther was found in the home's living room with a stab wound and was pronounced dead.

Authorities say the home is owned by Crowther's grandmother and Kelly and two women had been staying there for about a week

Police say Kelly changed his story several times before admitting to stabbing Crowther, and a knife was recovered from the scene.

They say a motive for the stabbing remains unclear. Kelly didn't have a lawyer as of Wednesday.
